Beavercreek’s elementary schools do an outstanding job of imparting the fundamentals of education with an emphasis on individual student growth. All five elementaries—Fairbrook, Main, Parkwood, Shaw and Valley—earned “Excellent” ratings in 2007 Ohio Department of Education State Report Card testing, and three of the five schools have been named National Schools of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education.
Beavercreek elementary teachers strive to provide instruction that is geared to individual students’ needs. Teachers use diagnostic tools to evaluate each child’s skills and strengths and highlight areas where they need help. This emphasis on evaluation helps teachers match their instructional approach with individual students’ learning styles to provide for academic success.
Character education programming is part of the curriculum at all elementaries, and students are taught the importance of a core set of ethical values—values that include caring, citizenship, fairness, respect, responsibility and trustworthiness.
Every building boasts classrooms with video, voice and data capabilities; an instructional media center, equipped with a library and a classroom-size computer lab; and multi-purpose rooms, clinics and outdoor playgrounds. Children enjoy weekly visits to their school library, and weekly art and physical education classes, as well as twice weekly music classes.
Beavercreek’s elementary teachers are held to high standards, always striving to improve individual student achievement. All staff are involved in ongoing professional development designed to prepare them to meet the challenges established by the state of Ohio and the ever-changing demands of today’s world.
