ESL - English as a Second Language- is an instructional program to help English Language Learners (ELL) learn English. A variety of instructional techniques and strategies are used to develop proficiency in Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Comprehension. Three ESL teachers currently serve our district. Services vary for individual students. We provide small group instruction and inclusion support for students who have very limited English skills as well as more advanced lessons and inclusion support for students who are progressing toward proficiency with English.
Our population continues to grow in Beavercreek, Ohio! As a result, Beavercreek City Schools has a diverse ESL population. Approximately 17% speak Arabic and approximately 8% speak Spanish. The remainder of our population speak over twenty different languages including Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Telugu, Urdu, Tagalog, and Hindi. Some students speak English with a high degree of proficiency while others are just learning the basics.
