PTO Information 2012-2013

We would like to clarify the PTO objectives, which include coordinating fund-raising activities, providing services and sponsoring social events. The mission of the PTO is to provide a link between the parents and the school staff, and to coordinate projects throughout the school year to benefit the entire Fairbrook family. There is NO membership fee, all Fairbrook parents are members of the PTO.

The infamous "Nut Sale" combined with a few other fundraisers raise funds for additional equipment and learning aids throughout the school. The funds are disbursed in the spring in the form of computers, software, AV materials and other important needs as prioritized by the PTO, Fairbrook administration, and staff. The Nut Sale is scheduled for October.

In contrast, the PTO also sponsors a variety of projects whose purpose is not to raise money but to provide opportunities for social interaction, and to provide services for busy Fairbrook families. These activities are not meant to be major fund-raisers; when funds are raised over the cost of an event or service they are placed in the PTO general fund and distributed in the spring. Other PTO events include (dates are subject to change):

Social Events

Donuts with Dad - October 9, 10
Muffins with Mom - May 14, 15
Family Fun Night - May 17

Services

Book Fairs - Oct. 9-11
Holly Days - Nov. 30, Dec. 1
Holiday Shop - Nov. 28 - 30
Market Day
School Directory
Foxwear Sales (clothing)

The PTO members also provide necessary volunteer hours to benefit Fairbrook students and teachers. Volunteers arrange and coordinate the above projects as well as help in the office, clinic, IMC, and classrooms. Volunteers also assist with new student orientations, teacher appreciation and welcome back lunches, kindergarten registration and assessment, and playground maintenance and improvements.

Watch the Fairbrook Flashes for information on upcoming PTO meetings. If all parents volunteer a few hours each month the rewards would be immeasurable. Remember that studies have proven that children whose parents are actively involved in their activities and education consistently score higher on standardized tests and are better adjusted students.

PTO MEETINGS

Actively participating in the PTO activities and attending PTO meetings is the best way for Fairbrook parents to share in their children’s educational experience. Throughout the year parents will receive the Fairbrook Flashes newsletter which gives information about school activities.
Meetings are tentatively scheduled for the second Thursday of each month. Monthly PTO meetings are open to all Fairbrook parents. Meetings are held in the IMC (library) and begin at 6:30 PM. The meeting dates are listed on the calendar.
