HEALTHY FOOD SUGGESTIONS
Here are some ideas for classroom treats. Let’s try to stay away from sugar related sweets as much as possible! How can we teach nutrition and healthy lifestyles when we allow/encourage all the junk food that is allowed for parties and events? I bet you can come up with many more healthy snack choices!
Here is a list of healthy snack choices to consider for classroom events. Serving all healthy foods and incorporating physical activities make a powerful statement. Actions speak louder than words. Lead by example.
Low-fat toaster pastries
Fresh or canned fruit
Bagels—alone or with low-fat cream cheese
Baby carrots, celery, broccoli—alone or with low-fat dip
Soft pretzels with mustard
Single serve low-fat or fat free milk (regular or flavored)
100% fruit juice
Pizza (no extra cheese or more than one meat)
