Scholarship GeometryScholarship Geometry is offered to any student who has maintained a "B" average or better in Scholarship Algebra I and who desires to take a course of broader scope than that of the traditional geometry offering. The first semester will emphasize writing proofs while the second semester will emphasize computational processes. The course will consist of the study of elements of geometry, angles, perpendicular lines, parallel lines and planes, congruent triangles and similar polygons, right triangles, circles, areas and volumes, and coordinate geometry. A scientific calculator is recommended for this course. Due to the intensity of this course, students should expect at least ½ hour of homework each night. Prerequisite: "B" average or better in Scholarship Algebra I with teacher recommendation 1 year--1 credit Scholarship Algebra II & TrigonometryThis course consists of sequences of real numbers, linear functions and relations, systems of linear open sentences, polynomials and rational algebraic expressions, radicals, irrationals, quadratic equations, polynomial functions and complex numbers, exponents and numerical computation, quadratic relations and systems, logarithms, conics, trigonometric and circular functions, and trigonometric identities and formulas. A graphing calculator is required for this course. Due to the intensity of this course, students should expect at least 1/2 hour of homework each night. Prerequisite: "B" average or better in Scholarship Geometry with teacher recommendation 1 year--1 credit Scholarship Pre-CalculusThe course is a continuation of the study of algebra, a study of trigonometry and an introduction to calculus. It is designed to prepare the college bound student for college level mathematics. The content includes skills from Algebra II, conics, logarithms, sequences, series, binomial expansion, matrices, permutations, combinations, probability, trigonometry, and calculus. This course is intended to give the student a "strong" background in algebra and trigonometry. A graphing calculator is required for this course. Due to the intensity of this course, students should expect at least 1/2 hour of homework each night. Prerequisite: "B" or better in Scholarship Algebra II with teacher recommendation 1 year--1 credit Scholarship CalculusThis course is a study of calculus. It is designed to prepare the college bound student for analytical thinking and complex algebraic manipulations required in college level mathematics. The content consists of a study of exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions including the properties of circular functions. Also included is an introduction to calculus which consists of limits and their properties, continuity, basic and advanced techniques of differentiation, application of derivatives, integration, and the differential. A graphing calculator is required. Due to the intensity of this course, students should expect at least ½ hour of homework each night. Prerequisite: A very strong "B" or better in Scholarship Algebra II & Trigonometry or a very strong "C" in Scholarship Pre-Calculus 1 year--1 credit |
