Mr. Busch – Math 8
Students are currently working on the Geometry Unit in chapters 6 and 7. They just took a quiz over important vocabulary for geometry today in class. Next week, students will be learning how to find the sum of interior and exterior angles of regular polygons, finding areas of two dimensional shapes and performing transformations on a coordinate plane. There will be a test over all of the information learned in Chapter 6 for Geometry before the Thanksgiving break. The rest of the Geometry Unit will take us all the way to the winter break. There will be two mini projects before the winter break that involve a variety of the geometry and measurement standards.

Students are currently working on the Geometry Unit in chapters 10 and 11. They just took a quiz over important vocabulary for geometry today in class. There will be a test over all of the information learned in Chapter 10 for Geometry and transformations before the Thanksgiving break. Mr. Busch – Honors Algebra 1
Students took the Ch. 4 test earlier this week. Ch. 4 proved to be the first challenge this year for many students as they realized they were now getting into some real algebraic thinking questions. I was very impressed that the large majority of students stepped up to the challenge and did very well with Ch. 4. We have started Ch. 5 this week. There next quiz will be on Ch. 5 and will cover sections one through four and be on Friday, November 18. The test for all of Ch. 5 will be after the Thanksgiving break.
*Students will be receiving checkpoints on their Geometry Project to be meeting so that they will not put it all off until the end. This project should all be done during charger period and will help students review important content that is covered on the OAA they will be taking in the spring. The project is worth a significant portion of their overall grade for the second quarter. There will be a Geometry Exam from everything students learned in the project the last week before students leave for winter break.

SOCIAL STUDIES / AMERICAN HISTORY
We will be finishing up with Ch. 5, titled The Spirit of Independence, next week by focusing on the Declaration of Independence. This week we focused on the five most significant acts of Parliament in leading up to the Revolutionary War – the Proclamation of 1763, Stamp Act, Townshend Acts, Tea Act, and Coercive (Intolerable) Acts. There will be a quiz next Tuesday over these acts and the corresponding chart the students worked on this week.
When we finish with the Declaration of Independence we will move right on to Ch. 6, The American Revolution 1776-1783. We’ll spend a little time covering the challenges faced by the American revolutionaries at the outset of the war, how the U.S. gained allies and aid during the War, how fighting in the South affected the course of the War, and how the Americans gained their independence. When finished with Ch. 6 there will be a combined test over Chapters 5 & 6. Please check the 8th Grade Tests link soon as I’ll post the date of this test when it’s determined.
We have been working on vocabulary associated with school and the university. The students may have come home singing a song about the days of the week! We will learn AR verbs next week and the verb GUSTAR. The students should be able to talk about their likes, interests, and what fascinates and bores them in Español! Then we will learn to conjugate AR verbs. We also have been singing to Justo Lamas songs in Español to prepare for the fieldtrip to his concert at BHS!
