Beavercreek City Schools (BCS) adopted the A.L.I.C.E approach, which offers an enhanced viewpoint when dealing with crisis situations. A.L.I.C.E has been adopted by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Department of Homeland Security, Ohio Attorney General Safe Schools Task Force, and the U.S. Department of Education. The philosophy of A.L.I.C.E is to use technology and information to enable staff and students to make informed decisions by removing as many people as possible from the threat.

    A.L.I.C.E stands for:

A-    Alert (get the word out, convey type and location of event)

L-    Lockdown (good starting point, allows use of current technology and procedures)

I-     Inform (allows for good decision making)

C-   Counter (apply skills to distract, confuse, and gain control)

    E-   Evacuate
