• Parkwood uses many different approaches to teaching students in the various curriculum content areas to help each child achieve his/her potential. For example, teachers might use The Daily Five and CAFÉ approaches to help children learn to be good readers. Many staff were trained in Literacy Collaborative and we have an extensive book room with leveled texts that help us differentiate instruction for students. Students have online access to the reading series that is also used in the classroom (see the Websites link on the left). Teachers use a combination of these materials to meet all learners' needs.

Ohio is one of the 45 states that adopted the Common CORE Standards for Language Arts and Math. Beavercreek will begin implementing the Math Common CORE Standards during the 2012-2013 school year while also ensuring that the Ohio Standards are still being taught.

To support the new standards, Beavercreek has adopted a new math program that we will be using beginning in the 2012-2013 school year. All Beavercreek Elementary schools will be using Math in Focus: The Singapore Approach for our math instruction.

For more information on the Math Common CORE Standards, visit the Ohio Department of Education's website.
